




















Situated in the heart of Helsinki city center, the immediate surrounding geometries played a significant role in deciding the overall concept of the design. The site is located in an empty concrete playground behind the client’s building – a children’s theatre. To reflect the monumentality of the surrounding corporate offices and institutions, I proposed a message of innocence within the busy, high-functioning adult life. The “heart” of the stage is a rectilinear space shaped by the inverted ceiling slope formed by untreated dimension lumbers to separate two primary functions of this summer stage. Facing southeast, the extended deck compliments the stage for a more private function, while the more generous ceiling slope and elevated floor deck facing northwest signify a formal performance stage for the public audience.
